Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University is seeking
professional services of an Architectural/Engineering
rm, authorized to do business in the Commonwealth
of Virginia, with experience in the planning, design and
construction of scienti c research laboratory facilities
in a university setting. In addition, the rm should have
extensive experience with museum facilities.
The Geosciences Discovery Center is envisioned to
be the preeminent research and education facility for
geosciences in the world. The facility will be headquarters
for a world-renowned Department of Geosciences and
be the rst academic building to encompass a unique
“Discovery Center Concept” design plan. The scienti c
research component for the College of Science will be a
combination of of ces, class laboratories, research of ces
and laboratories, and graduate student space that will be
used to house a number of departments and programs.
Also included are an expansion of the nanoscience
research eld, reception hall surrounded by museum
collections, common spaces, research centers, a major
lecture hall, and IMAX Theater.
A pre-proposal conference will be held on September
10, 2008, at 2:00 PM in the Classroom, Sterrett Facilities
Complex, located on the Virginia Tech campus. Attendance
is not mandatory.
